This month we added a new feature to our meetings. While early arrivers are networking, a roundtable discussion from 6:30 to 7:00 took place. This month's special interest group, lead by Kathy Ritondo was new business startups. Several members have been asking for more business information we had a Q&A specifically we discussed: editing and contract questions, what the client is responsible for and what the videographer is responsible for in a subcontract situation.
At 7:30 began the meeting with Show Us Your Stuff.
Gary Gellman began by showing us the CBS Wedding Show he worked on this summer and talked about the publicity his company receives from his contact with the Press.
Next Up was Jim O'Keefe, our NYPV Treasurer who showed us a Concept Love Story with a Zorro Theme, which was to be shown at a wedding reception the following weekend.
We then went on to NYPV member Andy Levison
who showed footage he shot at a wedding using the Glidcam and a Jib. Andy mentioned his services are available for second camera work and for these specialties.
NYPV friend, Art Klein of Al-Art Video was on hand, all the way from
Long Island, to tell us about his Store Specials including new products he offers in addition to his VHS Duplication, he now offers DVD and CD-ROM for both Replication and Media.
NYPV Website Designer and Consultant, Ed Cannata recently completed the revisions to our Archive Section on the www.nypv.com website. This is the history of our group on the web and we're very proud of it. Special thanks go out to Ed for his time and patience while we underwent the revisions. Ed is available for Web Design and Consulting.
Next up on the program were program designers, Mike Stuart and Gary Chrzan,
of a photo enhancing program called EZ Viewer, by GJC Software. NYPV member Moshe Yuda who has been using the product with success suggested this demonstration. We learned how using this software could help increase production values allowing you to raise your prices and make more money! I understand they company representatives sold out the entire product they had with them and had to promise to ship more. They gave us a fantastic price, AND DONATED A FREE COPY FOR A LUCKY MEMBER.
Our featured guest speaker was Phil Scardilli, accompanied by Dave Hall, will be presenting at the WEVA EXPO and CONVENTION in Las Vegas, this August 25 through 28th. Dance Recital Success was the topic. We learned how to tap into this market and make projects bring in more $$$$$. Great examples of multi camera coverage, special editing techniques, sales and marketing advice, the program was jam packed! He was quite a hit!
We still managed to squeeze in more show us your stuff at the end of the meeting. NYPV member Ben Zolno showed footage from a Bar Mitzvah. Guest Sam Berland showed a program he worked on, the Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village. Taylor Phillips visiting us from NJVA showed a beautifully shot (by Dave Hall) and edited (by Taylor Phillips) wedding demo that left us with mouths agape. The work was absolutely stunning. Both Dave and Taylor are available for freelance work.
NYPV Member Cornell Young is moving to Florida this month! We wish him the best of luck in all of his future venues. Next month Tommie McCauley follows him. Pretty soon we'll have to start an NYPV south chapter with all of the members we have that are moving to Florida!
