Minutes of October 1, 2003 Meeting

Al Ritondo, President of NYPV and Co-Founder opened the meeting by welcoming our guests and new members Michael Douglass of MasterTapes in Connecticut and Sam Berland of Jackson Heights, Queens.
Our Featured Speaker, Mr. Dan Krieger of Dan Krieger Photography and Video of Long Island, New York has this year been inducted into the WEVA Hall of Fame, he is the founder of The Association of Video Professionals, a featured writer and speaker at the WEVA Expo and former Judge of the WEVA Creative Excellence Award Competition. He chairs the committee for Continuing Education for WEVA and came to our meeting to discuss the Educational Program that WEVA has just adopted. It is called the Merited Professional Videographers Program and the purpose is to teach, improve our products and improve our bottom line.
The program consists of a textbook and an interactive CD-ROM.

Also needed is The Business of Wedding and Event Videography by John Goolsby of Canon Productions approximate price $49.00 available from his website.
Chapters from the production handbook for study are 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9.1, 10, 10.1, 10.2, 11, 12, 13, and 14. There will be a written test consisting of true/false and multiple-choice questions to be answered and a video submission. A testing company will oversee the process at Expo and Town Meetings.
The committee has put in a considerable number of hours working on this project for two years now. Their work is greatly appreciated.

Next up was Chris Kiley also newly inducted into the WEVA Hall of Fame. He is the founding president of The PVACT the Professional Videographers Association of Connecticut who shared with us how the certification process works in Connecticut.
VITEC Team followed consisting of Anton Bauer and Aspen Electronics representatives, Christopher Kiley, Michael Rice, Sol Comerchero and Kenneth Cyr. Discussions included stasis Mounts for small cameras, stabilization, batteries, chargers and lights.

Show Us Your Stuff continues to be a focal point at our meetings:
*Member Sherwin Winnick showed his first Wedding Video. It was shot in a coal mine.
*Member Ben Zolno showed a Bar Mitzvah.
*Newest member Sam Berland showed a mulit-ethnic, multi-camera wedding production.

*Mr. Ed Cannata, the NYPV webmaster showed a promotional tape for a shopping mall of a band performing at the mall.
Please note, as agreed at the September 2003 meeting, we will not show more than 3 minutes of any clip brought in to show us your stuff! If your clip is longer to show, plan a workshop or a presentation around it as it will not be shown in SHOW US YOUR STUFF.
Nominations and elections will be held at the November 12th meeting, please be there to vote.
